About our Host City: New Bern is a fascinating town with many tourist attractions. We hope you will bring your family with you to the convention and help make it a vacation for all. We are looking into many activities around New Bern and Morehead City that might create fun filled days for your family while you are at the conference. It is the second oldest town in North Carolina and is located at the confluence of two rivers, the Neuse and the Trent. You will find the scenery breathtaking, the residence very friendly, and things to see and do are plentiful. Within walking distance of our convention site and hotel are more than 150 homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Tryon Palace is just a few blocks away and we have made plans for tours and workshops with this first governor’s residence. New Bern is the birthplace of Pepsi and you can visit the store where it all happened! Great gift shops, small restaurants, art galleries and café are all within walking distance. For those that are weary or just don’t want to walk, there is also a trolley tour!
This is New Bern’s 300th anniversary and they are celebrating all year. To check out some of their events, you can look on their 300th Anniversary site. http://www.newbern300.com
Check out their New Bern Bears installed around the town…(just like Chicago and their cows). The German word for bear is Bern...get it!! http://www.beartownbears.org
