emeritus fund raising

With past funds, we have helped the Tennessee area that was hit by tornados summer of 2023

This year, the fundraiser done with LOVEARTNC has paid for printing costs and now the profit so far of $455 has been sent to King Kamehameha III Elementary School in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii.  After asking around (gee, lots of people offered ideas and information as eyes and ears there on the island) I found this school had been totally destroyed while three other schools suffered damage but was repairable.  This school had a history since the 1880’s and some of the buildings were from 1913 or so.  It was and still is a major part of the community.  Before the wildfire they were serving 700 students… (but are currently down by half in numbers as many of their staff and population haven’t returned to the area waiting for a new home to be built) are now in a temporary building and also with trailers, lots of trailers. They know they lost six staff members who died due to the fires. Just the first week of September they found the remains of four persons at the old school site during the ongoing clean-up.  The art teacher was given the basic items (paper, pencils, and crayons to begin her lessons August 7th (almost a year to the date of the fire).  The Lahaina Arts Guild from the untouched West side of the island had given her a few better supplies like glue, paint, and markers.   I know our hearts go out to this art teacher with dealing with this situation emotionally. ~Marylu Flowers Shoen

Do check out their website of how the school/area used to look.  I know our contribution will help a bit as they plan to be here for the next five years.
